Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha, on Wednesday sounded a stern warning to individuals in society who are in the habit of marrying school going girls.
Speaking on Wednesday during the release of the 2019 KCSE results, the CS said there are some individuals in the society, who are still marrying young girls who should be in school.
He noted that his ministry will work closely with the Ministry of Interior to ensure those found culpable are dealt with as per the law.
“I want to say this without fear that there are still people who are fond of marrying school girls. We will come for you and ensure that school girls go back to school. And therefore, we shall be working with the Ministry of Interior to ensure that is achieved,” said Magoha.
While reiterating the commitment of government to ensure full transition to secondary school, Magoha said Grade 4 CBC program will be rolled out in January.
“Nemis is here to stay and I want to announce to you today that we have successfully upgraded the system” he said.
While calling on politicians to keep off the process, the CS also warned school heads to ensure that the process is not interfered with.
“It is not the child’s business to be in Nemis, but it is our business as school heads and ministry to ensure that they are in the system” said Magoha.
