A section of soccer analysts in the country among them former Harambee Stars defender James Situma has linked the 27-year-old deep-lying midfielder’s move to Chiefs to his hard work and immense discipline on and off the pitch.

At 27, Akumu is at the peak of his soccer prowess, and he is now set to become the most successful and decorated footballer this country has ever produced in terms of winning league titles in various countries.

For starters, Akumu played for Gor Mahia for four years from 2010, helping K’Ogallo to win two Kenya Premier League titles in 2013 and 2014 before leaving for Sudan’s Al-Hilal Club.

However, his stay in the team was short-lived as he left to sign for Zambian side Zesco United in 2016, winning the Zambian Super League title in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

That makes it five Premier League titles for Akumu in Kenya and Zambia within a span of six years.

His new side Kaiser Chiefs is currently top of the league standings in South Africa with 41 points after 17 matches, 9 points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs have a game in hand meaning they stand a high chance of winning the title for the 5th time this year.

If that happens, Akumu will not only become the first Kenyan to play for the club but also to win a league title in Kenya, Zambia and South Africa.
