The leader of the Thirdway Alliance party Dr Ekuru Aukot has hit out at the Kenyan media in the wake of the suspected Al-Shabaab attack on a military base in Lamu.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday, the chief proponent of the Punguza Mizigo initiative took issue with the manner in which the media outlets were treating the attack.
He appeared to suggest that the terrorist attack was not being given the serious coverage.
"Camp Simba on Manda Island is reportedly under attack by Al-Shabaab, yet all our TV channels are showing some meaningless programs!" Sad" Dr Aukot fumed.
The attack was confirmed by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) spokesman Colonel Paul Njuguna.
He said that four of the militants who were involved in the daring Manda attack had been found even as the rest were being pursued.
“The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorist bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe,” Col Njuguna said as quoted by Capital News.
“Arising from the unsuccessful breach a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going,” he added.
Kenya is locked in an ongoing war to reduce the footprint and influence of Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
