One such incident happened right before the eyes of then Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, who had visited Kenyatta at the Statehouse.

Kaunda would later tell Nation journalist that Kenyatta could not hold himself after his personal doctor ordered the chef to return a trayful of meat that he had served Kenyatta.

He revealed, in 2003, that the doctor ordered the chef to only leave a few pieces for Kenyatta, apparently since he was suffering from several ailments, including gout and eczema.

However, Kenyatta would order that the meat be brought back immediately after the doctor stepped out, and proceeded to lament about his (the doctor) behaviour to Kaunda.

"These doctors are a funny people. When did they hear of a lion taken to hospital for eating too much meat?” he reportedly told the visiting Head of State.

He also revealed details of Kenyatta's great love for meat soup, recalling how he would gulp bowl after bowlnof the same, while encouraging him (Kaunda) to do the same.

To ensure that Kaunda would get a similar product once back at home, he ordered that 20 goats be flown to Kaunda's farm back at home, just to ensure that the supply kept flowing.

After his death in 1978, Kaunda remained close to Kenya, and would later establish a close working relationship with Kenyatta's successor Daniel Moi.
