COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has come under fire over planned mega Luhya meeting at Bukihungu Stadium on January 18.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and Sirisia MP John Waluke poured scorn on Atwoli's call for the meeting saying he has no powers to rally the community to attend the mega meeting.
“Atwoli is an outcast who pretends to be a life member of Kanu when he is just but working for Raila. As far as we are concerned, we don’t regard Atwoli as a serious man, and he cannot purport to plan a meeting to discuss Luhya unity let alone BBI,” Barasa told the Star on Monday.
Waluke, on the other hand, pointed out that there may be a plan for President Uhuru Kenyatta to stay in power longer than allowed by the constitution.
“People like Atwoli who have refused to give way for young people to lead Cotu and always buying his way and Raila a perennial election loser are busy lying to the President to stay in power more than what the Constitution provides,” Waluke stated.
The mega meeting was announced by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya after a meeting with a section of leaders from the Western region which was attended by opposition leader Raila Odinga. The meeting was held at Atwoli's home.
Atwoli has previously insisted that the meeting is not political but is meant to support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
