National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has hailed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearing football star McDonald Mariga for the Kibra parliamentary race.
In a tweet, Duale applauded the IEBC disputes tribunal for reversing a decision by Kibra Returning Officer to lock Mariga out of the race.
“We are happy with the verdict delivered by the committee chairman Wafula Chebukati in that he is a registered voter and can vie for the Kibra By-Election and ordered the returning officer to immediately issue the @IEBCKenya nomination certificate to McDonald Mariga,” he tweeted.
Speaking after being cleared, Mariga said he is ready to hit the ground running in Kibra.
“The people of Kibra will decide who becomes their Member of Parliament. They will be my bosses and I know everything will go well on November 7, 2019. (Watu wa Kibra ndio wataamua atakayekuwa mbunge wao. Najua mambo yataenda poa tarehe 7 Novemba…Niko na documents zote. Hiyo sio shida kwa saa hii. Leo tunazungumzia mambo ya certificate na hiyo tumemaliza),” he said.
