Moiben MP Silas Tiren has appealed to the government to declare cancer a national disaster.
Tiren said he will lobby the National Assembly to set aside funds for treating cancer patients and to reduce the costs of accessing cancer treatment.
"I urge the government to declare cancer as a national disaster and as a legislator, I will push for the National Assembly to set aside funds for treating the cancer patients and reduce the costs of accessing treatment," he posted on Facebook Monday.
He further urged everyone to do routine checkups as well as registering for NHIF to aid in the treatment cost.
"I also call on everyone to do routine checkups and register for NHIF for it goes a long way in reducing the cost of treatment," further noted Tiren after visiting his friend, lawyer Paul Birech.
This also comes after Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore succumbed to cancer in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The cancer disaster has currently 'hit' the country with a number of deaths and many others suffering from the disease reported.
