Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday broke his silence regarding challenges facing exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna, in his attempts to travel back to the country.
According to Matiang'i, the laws passed by Parliament have made it difficult for Kenyans who renounced their citizenship or were exiled, to regain their citizenship and acquire a Kenyan passport.
“We are witnessing a lot of acrimony on an issue everyone thinks is common sense. We are not the ones who passed the laws," he said as quoted by Standard.
“If we fail to implement it we will be hammered. Now that we are implementing, we are hammered," he added.
He divulged that the government has no intentions to block persons who denounced their Kenyan citizenship, or were deported, from coming back to the country.
The Interior CS further noted that he has written to the Attorney General seeking for advice on the issue.
“I’ve written to the Attorney General, on advice from the technical people, to look at our proposals and if in agreement, to forward to Parliament," he noted.
Miguna was set to jet back to the country on January 7, this year, but was blocked from boarding a plane in Germany, over a red alert issued against him by the Kenyan government.
