On Monday, Kianda while speaking during the opening of a three-day free medical camp by Inka Medical Association at Gusii Stadium where he represented Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí said the rate at which young girls are being impregnated is high.

"It is worrying that young girls in Gusii region are being impregnated early, something that makes them drop out of school. I urge parents across Gusii region to give proper guidance to young girls. Every parent should also ensure girls are educated," said Kianda.

He appealed to county government officers not to spare men chasing young girls for illicit sex saying such men belong to jail.

Kianda assured that he will work with police bosses in Nyamira and Kisii counties to curb teenage pregnancies.

"Our girls should be given time to complete school before they make families. Teenage pregnancies must come to an end in Gusii region. Men who want to marry should go for mature women to marry and impregnate them not school girls," he added.

The commissioner urged Gusii leaders to be on the forefront pushing for the education of the girl child.
