A 21-year-old suspect who raped and killed a class four pupil on December 28, 2019, has been apprehended by the police in the Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.
The body of the young girl was discovered along a road at Lwanda B Village, East Kanyamwa in Ndhiwa Sub County.
Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander Evans Ombui on Monday said the suspect has been remanded at Ndhiwa Police Station and is being questioned.
“We are still interrogating him to dig up more information and we are still looking for more suspects,” Ombui stated.
The young girl was a pupil at Agomy Academy. Police say that the incident may have been perpetrated by more than one person.
Political leaders from the region including former Public Service Member Florence Ouma and Kanyamwa Kosewe MCA Nicholas Owaka condemned the incident and asked for justice to be served to the bereaved family.
“Suspects who killed the young girl are people in this community which means there is someone who knows them. Let us avoid protecting criminals and report the matter to the police,” Owaka stated during a press conference at Ndhiwa Police Station on Sunday.
Members of the public have been urged to help police officers in the investigation.
