What would you do if you knew that police were coming to arrest you? Well for former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, turning himself into a cook at a city hotel made him escape arrest in 2017.
Speaking during NTV’s AM Live Show on Tuesday morning, the vocal politician recounted how he dashed into a hotel’s kitchen, put on a cook’s gear and started preparing chicken when he got wind that police were looking for him.
“Once upon a time during the struggle two years ago, police came for me at a city hotel to arrest me at 9.30PM when I was watching my favourite team Manchester United play. So, I decided to be the Khalwale who he is, you know what I did, I told them, they have come for me, let them start searching the hotel,” recalled Khalwale, popularly known as the bull fighter
“I went to the kitchen and put on this gear of cooks and started preparing sizzling chicken,” Khalwale said as he threw fellow panelists among them former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi into a hearty laughter.
The former Ikolomani MP said police searched everywhere and left without realising that he was the one behind the cooking pot.
Two years ago, Khalwale was a loyal supporter of ODM party leader Raila Odinga. He has since jumped ship and joined Deputy President William Ruto’s camp ahead of the 2022 elections.
