A woman living in Mombasa on Monday denied claims of poisoning her husband, allegedly to prevent him from marrying another wife some six years ago.
Appearing before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate, Azra Praveen Din also denied claims that she was in bad terms with Briton tycoon Roy Harry Veevers before his death.
She told the court that they lived happily until the time of his death, recalling that he gave her Sh500, 000 monthly.
She said that the woman said to have been her husband's lover was actually a family friend close to their daughter Hellen Veevers, while terming the deceased a loving man.
“My husband died from heart attack after falling sick the whole day on February 14, 2013, at our house in Nyali,” said the woman, insisting that Roy died a natural death.
The allegations have been levelled by her stepsons Richard and Phillip Veevers, who in their testimonies four years ago pointed out that their dad was murdered by poisoning.
The two are from Roy's former marriage with a Briton. Philip, a soldier, said that being a medical officer on the battlefield, he could directly detect poisoning when he saw the body of his father in the morgue, noting that some parts were pink.
Azra denied claims that her husband, whom she married in Diani in 1977, had foam in the mouth when one Dr Salim Omar when to their home to confirm the death.
The case will be heard again on February 24, 2020, after a pathological test by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor, the magistrate ruled.
