A multi-agency team of detectives on Friday arrested a woman in Mombasa over allegations of peddling drugs.
In a tweet on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that the woman was arrested after the officers received a tip-off from members of the public.
Rolls of bhang estimated to be worth over Sh12 million were confiscated following a search operation conducted at the woman's house in Kisauni Constituency.
The suspect has been identified as Vivian Auma.
''OVER 25,200 Rolls of #BHANG with an Estimated Street Value of Kshs. 12.6M were today Confiscated at a Residential House in Kiembeni Estate, Kisauni-MSA, following a search conducted by a Multi-Agency Team. One Suspect; Mrs Vivian AUMA (owner of the house) arrested & in Custody,'' wrote DCI.
According to the detectives, the woman had packed the rolls of bhang in 42 large Nigerian bags. The rolls had been wrapped in brown khaki papers, possibly for transportation to customers.
The woman, who is currently in police custody will be arraigned in court on Monday. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
The suspect's arrest comes at a time when leaders and police in the county have declared war on drug trafficking in the region as many youths have become victims of drug abuse.
