Veteran boxer Conjestina Achieng reacted on Thursday to damning claims by sports commentator and former footballer Boniface Ambani that she had been abandoned by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Speaking to the Nairobi Governor on phone Thursday, the boxer who has been battling mental issues rejected the notion that she had been abandoned, calling on people to stop playing politics with her case.
"Treatment is going on very well. I have recovered and everything is okay. Why are they saying that and I am okay? I am okay. The only thing that I want is to go back to Nairobi so that I can resume my training (Matibabu inaendelea vizuri. Nimerecover kila kitu iko sawa. Mbona wanasema hivo na mimi niko sawa. Niko sawa kabisa ile kitu iko ni nataka kurudi Nairobi niendelee na mazoezi.), " Conjestina told Governor Sonko.
Sonko took offence in Boniface Ambani's claims that were made during a panel discussion of topical issues that aired on NTV and moderated by journalist Yoshua Makori.
The boxer thanked the Nairobi County boss for his intervention and helping her get treatment. She is currently receiving treatment at a mental health facility at Diani in the Port City of Mombasa.
In a telephone conversation with the governor, Conjestina spoke lucidly, an indication that she is on the path to regaining control of her life.
