According to the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa,  PLWDs have the right to access government offices, therefore, they should be put into consideration while coming up with any structures.

“We will inspect all buildings to ensure that all government offices, supermarkets and ATM's are PLWD friendly so that the said group can access public offices without any difficulties,” he said.

Jaldesa who spoke in Eldoret on Tuesday said PLWD’s are just like their normal counterparts and their rights should be respected.

“We will ensure that structures construct alternative stairs where those with wheelchairs can use and also put up lifts which they can use to move them from one office to another," said the county commissioner.

He also warned those hiding people living with a disability that they will be arrested and charged.

During the marking of World Disability Day early December, Uasin Gishu County Director of the National Council of People with Disabilities (NCPWD) Titus Yego had expressed concerns that over 60 per cent of buildings in the county cannot be accessed by PLWDs.
