During the talks, President Kenyatta advocated for direct flights from Jamaica to Kenya.

The Head of State said the transport connection between Jamaica and Kenya will transform the economies of the two nations.

The president noted that Kenya and Jamaica share various things, adding that it is high time they took their relationship to another level.

He noted that the new move will strengthen the economic ties of the East African region and Caribbean in the near future, if adopted at the end of the day.

“Our national carrier now has scheduled direct flights from Nairobi to New York but we would like to see flights flying from the East Coast to the West Coast of Africa and directly to Jamaica, and through Jamaica to the rest of the Caribbean as a true way of deepening our partnership,” President Kenyatta said as quoted by Standard.

"We need to deepen our trade because by so doing we also take our people-to-people relations to the next level. Kenya is today one of the largest and one of the most diversified economies on the African continent," he added.

The president is in Jamaica where he is expected to be the chief guest during the celebration of the country’s 57th Independence Day.

Uhuru was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and a number of government officials.
