President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken speedy action over the current issues with the governors over the division of revenue.
In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Deputy President William Ruto revealed that the head of state had directed that the new division of revenue bill to be published on Wednesday.
"After another round of consultations with stakeholders as instructed by the President, a new division of revenue bill will be published tomorrow where the national government will forego some resources to enhance shareable revenue to county governments," he said.
This comes after the governors took this matter to the court. They were pointing fingers at the National Treasury, who they accused of ignoring the Commission of Revenue Allocation’s directions on splitting of revenue between the national government and the developed units.
Lead by the Council of Governor (CoG) chairman Wycliffe Oparanya, the county bosses opined that the counties were being held hostage by an individual whose aim is to kill devolution.
Over the weekend, DP Ruto argued the county bosses not to take the division of funds issues to the courts.
The National Assembly argued that the 47 counties should be allocated Sh316 billion. On the other side, senators wanted their counties to be allocated Sh327 billion.
With President Uhuru Kenyatta intervention, county bosses have been relieved over funds in the counties for development projects.
