An inferno has burnt the official residence of Homa Bay County Commissioner Herman Shambi.
Confirming the same on Sunday evening, Mr Shambi said the cause of the fire remains unknown.
According to the commissioner, he was in the house with his family at the time the fire broke out at around 6:30pm.
He said the fire broke out from one of the rooms, but no one was injured, even though the fire gutted down all the property in the house.
"We tried putting out the fire using water but we did not succeed as it quickly spread to other rooms.
"No one was hurt, we are all fine except for the children who got a little scared," he said as quoted by Nation.
However, this comes only three months after area Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata announced that the county is well equipped with firefighting gear.
The deputy county boss three months ago said the county has since acquired fire engines to deal with such incidences.
Homa Bay Town residents have questioned the whereabouts of the engines, following the inferno.
