Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Shollei has accused Youth Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachael Shebesh of breaking the law through her political involvements.
The ex-Nairobi woman MP is part of the Embrace group, a union of women leaders in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2018 truce with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, Shollei said that the same amounts to breaking the law, considering that she is currently a civil servant, proposing her summoning to Parliament to explain her actions.
"Hiyo ni makosa, hata anafaa kuwa summoned in Parliament. Shebesh ni kama Assistant Minister. (Its wrong, actually she should be summoned before Parliament. Shebesh is like an Assistant Minister)," she said on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday morning.
This comes at a time when some forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto have termed the group an arm of Raila, ahead of his 2022 general election endeavors.
At the same time, she urged Raila to re-assume his initial role as the leader of opposition, at a time when he seems in full cooperation with Uhuru and the Jubilee government.
Shollei observed that the nation badly needs someone to keep the government on check, a role she said only Raila had proved he can do.
"Shida nyingine ni opposition kukubaliana na serikali. Juzi nilimwona Raila hata akishukuru serikali eti reli inafika Kisumu. (The other problem is the opposition collaborating with the government. I even saw Raila thanking the government for the planned railway construction to Kisumu)," she added.
"He needs to stop going to bed with the government," said Shollei.
