A 95-year-old Siaya woman who is involved in a land tussle with her late husband's kin is now all smiles after President Uhuru Kenyatta came to her rescue.
Truphena Akoth Otako claims that she has been living in the parcel in Jera village in Ugenya for over 48 years.
However, she was on the verge of losing it after the kin moved to the High Court and obtained an eviction order.
Her distress calls to the President some two weeks ago managed to reach the Head of State who ordered local officials to immediately look into the matter, which they did.
This was followed by a visit by Nyanza Regional Commissioner James Kiaga, Assistant County Commander and area chief and assistant chiefs, who promised to handle the woman's appeal in court as Uhuru ordered.
Ugenya Sub County Commander Pamela Atieno said that they will appeal the case on her behalf, a period during which she will peacefully occupy the land.
“Once the appeal is filed, nobody will interfere with the widow and her family. We have assured them as much. The President is keen to see the family gets justice,” she said.
The happy Truphena who called on Uhuru to help her appeal the case now says that her hopes have been restored, as she had already lost hope of retaining her land.
"We believed we had lost the battle and our hope of ever occupying this land was completely shattered. But we were wrong. The President had sent a team to rescue us,” she said on Saturday.
