Pumwani Maternity Hospital is in the process of undergoing an upgrade, the hospital's management has said.
The upgrade has been undertaken with the express aim of containing the public confidence crisis that the facility has been grappling with.
Geoffrey Mosaria, the facility's chief administrative officer confirmed the upgrade of the facility to members of the press on Sunday.
He said that the hospital had received modern, state of the art equipment for the theatre and ward departments.
The structures were also being renovated and rehabilitated.
"We have received new modern equipment for our theatre, for our wards. There have been renovation and rehabilitation of the whole structures which were currently under-utilised," Mosaria said in a video shared by KTN News Alerts on Twitter. (0:14-0:30)
The upgrade of the maternity facility comes in the wake of devastating public criticism from members of the public over the state of affairs at the hospital.
Members of the public who have sought services at the hospital have spoken about receiving poor services, triggering a public relations nightmare for the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
The county government of Nairobi under the stewardship of Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been involved in the efforts to transform the maternity hospital.
In April this year, the county government donated beds to the hospital and oversaw the rehabilitation of a number of its wards.
