An elderly woman was on Monday swept away by raging floods in Qubi Qallo area of Saku Sub-County in Marsabit County, following heavy rains.

The 51-year-old woman identified as Lokho Jillo Kampare was attempting to cross a flooded section of a road when she was swept away by the flood waters.

Marsabit Central OCPD Joseph Mutende who confirmed the incident said they received reports of a woman who had been swept away by floods in the area.

Mr Mutende said the police had a hard time in finding the body following the heavy downpour.

“The woman was attempting to cross a flooded section of a road when she was swept away. We managed to recover the body of the deceased after a long search.”

“I urge the area residents to be more cautious as the rains continue hitting many parts of the county,” the OCPD said.

Eight families in Maikona Location of North Horr Sub-County, Marsabit are counting losses after their animals were swept by floods.

Maikona Chief Guyo Isacko said more than 100 goats died as the families were forced to relocate to safety.

“Some of the families have been affected by floods. No deaths have been reported though as some residents have been trapped by flood waters for two days.”

“We have contacted the Red Cross and the county government to assist the affected families who need food and other assistance,” said the chief as quoted by the Daily Nation.
