The governor was speaking during the public launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report at Bomas of Kenya.

The speech was shared live on K24 TV official Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.

The city boss took issue with politicians using youths during political campaigns and elections only to dump them later and refer to them as 'goons' and 'thieves'.

"(Let us solve the problem of unemployment amongst the youth who are misused during elections and later forgotten and termed as goons and thieves)  Tusuluhishe swala la ukosefu wa kazi baina ya vijana ambao hutumika vibaya wakati wa` uchaguzi kisha baadae wanasahaulika na kuitwa 'goons' na wezi)," Said Sonko.

Every election period, politicians have been relying on the support of youth, especially those who are unemployed to campaign for them.

However, campaigns sometimes turn into chaos and even violence as youth supporting the contesting politicians engage one another in insults and fights.

Some supporters of politicians who attend these campaign rallies often become casualties. In other occasions, property is destroyed or stolen.

During the recently concluded Kibra by-election, supporters of some candidates were attacked during campaigns and election day by youth perceived to be incited by politicians. Leaders came out to condemn the attackers, who they referred to as goons.
