A function planned by women allied to the Inua Mama initiative was on Friday forced into premature conclusion after the leaders and their supporters faced off.
The group which has declared support for Deputy President William Ruto was hosted by Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami in the function that was held in Nyeri Town.
Mukami was also to issue cheques to youth groups, but trouble started when leaders accused the youth of attempting to disrupt the function, leading to an exchange.
Mukami further declared her support for Ruto, which the group responded to by saying that it only supports President Uhuru Kenyatta, after which people started leaving.
The blame landed on area MP Wambugu Ngunjiri who was not present during the function, with Maragua MP Mary Waithira and Alice Wahome (Kandara), accusing him of managing the chaos.
“We will not allow anyone to intimidate women, we do not have to ask for permission to hold a meeting in this constituency," said Wahome.
The MP arrived moments later in the company of his supporters, leading to another scuffle with the women leaders, after which the function was completely called off.
Police led by Nyeri OCPD Paul Kuria made several arrests bid some of the suspected troublemakers.
