Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Sunday raided Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's homes in Runda and Kiambu.
The officers carried away some documents as part of the probe into the alleged loss of millions of funds in his government.
Waititu and his wife Susan Ndungu surrendered to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi on Sunday. The detectives detained them over the scandal as probe into the matter gains momentum.
The governor presented himself to the detectives at 10 am before his wife followed suit in the course of the day, following reports that they had reportedly gone into hiding.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji’s side has insisted that the governor has a case to answer as far as the alleged loss of funds is concerned. The DPP said that the funds in question were paid to the county government but there are no records to show how the amount was used.
“Once the funds were paid by the Kiambu County Government, a total of Sh25, 624,500 was remitted to entities associated with Waititu,” EACC said in a statement presented in court," as quoted by Capital FM.
Haji has also said that he has sufficient evidence to charge the governor and his wife among other persons.
“I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain charges,” the DPP added.
