Political leaders allied to the Deputy President William Ruto now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene on the Mau Forest planned eviction.
The leaders accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of being silent on the plight of Mau residents who voted for him.
“Mr President please intervene since those people in Mau voted for you and they stood with you during turf times. It’s your turn to stand with them since they are going through hell,” said Caleb Kositany of Soy.
The leaders were speaking on Sunday during the opening of Our Lady of Fatima Moiben Catholic Church.
They reiterated that the president should mind the plight of the old, the sick the young because they are the ones who will be affected most when the eviction is effected.
“Please put whatever action they want to take in Mau on hold let us sit as brothers and sisters and discuss.
"It is not that we don’t want the conservation of the environment to be done but we also want the sanctity our people to be preserved," added Didmus Barasa.
They called on Uhuru to visit the area and state his position on the issue before embarking on the process.
The government is set to kick out over 60,000 families from the largest water catchment area, a move that has rattled Deputy President William Ruto's allies.
Last week, the government claimed that 15 schools within Mau forest were built illegally, a move that even complicates the situation since students are set to sit for exams from October.
