As satisfying as it might be seeing friends and families comment on your photos,  posting them on social media can expose you to security risks.

A case reported in Japan reveals one can triangulate your location by just using a photo you posted on social media.

The 26-year-old man identified as Hibiki Sato arrested over sexual assault and stalking a celebrity, revealed he tracked down the lady's location from the photos she posted on social media.

The accused explained how he managed to identify the train station where the lady took photos and posted on social media.

He zoomed into her eyes and identified the background of the photo(train station) by analyzing the scenery reflected on the eyes through Google Street View.

According to reports, after tracing her whereabouts, the accused waited for the unmanned woman and followed her to her house where he sexually assaulted her.

This suggests that some photos especially the high-quality ones expose your background and where you took it.

From the investigation, Tech Times concluded that high-resolution photos are the worst at exposing one's details.

An investigator further warned people from posting such type of pictures on social media to be very careful as they expose their important and personal data.

"People should be fully aware that posting pictures and video on social media runs the risk of divulging personal data," noted an investigator who spoke to CBS News.

A pundit, Shuichiro Hoshi also voiced that improved quality smartphone cameras expose one's private information to anyone on the internet.
