Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa has said that the national government is committed to ensuring that every resident in the county gets a birth certificate.
According to the county commissioner, the government has given a one-month Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) period to clear the current backlog of birth certificates following complaints of slow processing by residents.
“More officers have been trained to quicken the process of processing of birth certificates which has been taking over 10 months for one to get this crucial document,” said the county commissioner.
Jaldesa noted that residents will now be receiving the crucial document in a period of not more than two months after the application date.
The commissioner made the remarks while addressing journalists in his office on Wednesday, adding that the move will give Kenyans who have not obtained the document a chance to do so.
“I want Uasin Gishu residents to use this window to apply for this crucial document. This will enable us to roll out phase two of the Huduma Namba registration for those who did not register because they lacked birth certificates,” he added.
He directed chiefs and their assistants to ensure that every resident in their areas of jurisdiction who has not applied for the document does so with immediate effect.
