Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has joined other leaders and Kenyans in mourning the death of Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso.
Raila said that he learned about the death of the governor Laboso with deep shock.
In a tweet, the ODM leader said the governor's death is not only a big blow to the county but also the entire nation.
He also said that her fond memories will last forever, adding that she played an immense role in the fight for devolution.
"Laboso's death is a blow to our system of devolved government. She was a dedicated public servant and when I recently visited her in hospital in London, I was encouraged that she was on the path to full recovery. My prayers are with her family and the people of Bomet. Rest in Peace," Raila tweeted.
Laboso died on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
She succumbed to a long illness at the age of 58.
The governor died two weeks after she arrived back into the country following a medical trip to India and the United Kingdom.
On Monday, the Bomet County Government had issued a statement saying that Laboso was recovering.
“The office of the Governor would like to reassure the residents of Bomet and the general public that Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso is recuperating well and still under observation,” read the statement as quoted by Citizen Digital.
