Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said that she would consider a political alliance with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 polls.
This comes at a time when the two leaders, who have not been in good terms since 2015, have been seen to mend the fences, only two years to the much anticipated polls.
Speaking to the People Daily on Tuesday, the governor, who even campaigned for ODM candidate Imran Okoth in Kibra, said that she cannot rule out working with Raila in 2022.
"We will see what our working together will produce in good time," she told the paper, in confirmation that she has been working together with the veteran politician.
About their closeness, she said that its based on Raila's 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying that the two of them then agreed to forget about their past.
In their meeting, she said, they agreed to forget about the ills they had done to each other, including her suing Raila for linking her to the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.
"On our renewed relationship, you must remember that about a year ago, after the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, Raila Odinga and I had a meeting and agreed to let bygones be bygones. You noticed he even attended my wedding. Essentially, whatever animosity that was there in the past is buried,” she added.
The same was confirmed by Raila's spokesman Dennis Onyango, who told the paper that the two have agreed to open a new page in their political relationship after clashes in the past.
Since their own truce, Waiguru had repeatedly been heard defending Raila from hostile Mt Kenya politicians, saying that he would be accepted by the Mt Kenya region in 2022.
On the other hand, Raila had brushed off opposition leaders who have questioned his relationship with a person whose integrity he initially claimed was questionable.
