In a press conference on Sunday in Nairobi, the governing Jubilee legislator appeared to suggest that the decision to evict the so called illegal settlers was a unilateral one.

"Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot: I challenge CS Tobiko to present before this country any documents that confirm that the exercise he is carrying out is a joint government decision...I can assure you there is none, " the Kericho senator said.

Senator Cheruiyot's strong sentiments echo the position taken by a section of Rift Valley leaders who want te evictions stopped.

CS Tobiko has maintained that the planned second phase evictions will go on as had been planned by the government.

About a month ago, the Environment CS held a closed-door meeting with security officials in Narok County at the county commissioner's office .

Issues around the impending evictions in Mau Forest were reportedly discussed at length with a strategy of how to go about the process explored.

The Mau issue has been a political hot potato with politicians sending mixed signals on the issue.

CS Tobiko has framed the issue as a purely environmental conservation issue with a section of Rift Valley framing it it humanitarian terms.
