Members of Parliament have put the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) over the closure of liquor factory.
The lawmakers questioned why NEMA is yet to effect the directive from the National Assembly to close the firm for failing to meet the operational requirements of the country.
The legislators said that London Distillers Ltd has compromised NEMA thereby living it to remain in operations even after an order was issued by parliament for its closure.
In a committee chaired by Moitalel ole Kenta (Narok North), officials from NEMA were asked to give valid reasons as to why they have not affected the directive.
The directive to close the firm came after it emerged that the toxic emission from the firm put the lives of the residents of Edermann Property Ltd in Athi River Town in danger.
Acting Nema Director-General Mamo B Mamo has now assured the legislators that the firm will be compelled to comply with the safety standards before it can continue with operations within the same place.
He also said that they will have no choice but to enforce the directive to close the firm if it doesn’t respond positively to the concerns raised by the residents from the area.
“I want to assure this committee that London Distillers Ltd will and must comply with the orders issued,” Mr Mamo said, as quoted by Nation.
