Police in Kisumu are holding a man after a gun was found hidden inside his house.

Police took in Fredrick Odhiambo Nudu after a loaded Jericho pistol was found hidden in the ceiling of his house in Kisian, alongside six rounds of ammunition.

Police suspect that the man, who was arrested after a tip-off from members of the public, is part of an armed gang that has been terrorising locals in the area.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed his arrest, adding that he is helping police with investigations as they seek to wipe out criminal violence in the area.

“A loaded firearm was yesterday confiscated in Kisiani area, Kisumu County by DCI Detectives in an intelligence led operation prompted by a tip off from the public. The raid led to the arrest of Fredrick Odhiambo Nudu after the said weapon, a Pistol make Jericho, with 6 rounds of ammunition was found hidden on the ceiling of his house," DCI tweeted on Thursday.

The police said that the operation also saw the police nab, three other suspects, among them one women.

The three are Enoch Ochieng (28), Edward Okumu (28) and Mercy Akinyi (22), who are also helping detectives probing growing cases of gun violence in the area.

"Prior to the operation, three suspects; Mercy Akinyi-22yrs, Enock Ochieng’-28yrs and Edward Okumu Owino-28yrs had already been arrested and assisting in investigations on the rampant cases of gun violence," it wrote.
