Referring to the politicians' behaviour as 'annoying', the lawyer said Uhuru's announcement was not a big deal as it was given he will head home after serving his second and final term.

"There's something particularly annoying about politicians who try to patronize the president. Thanking the president for saying he will retire? Of course, Uhuru is going home. Where else would he retire after completing his term? Sycophancy does not have to reach dizzying levels," Ogolla tweeted on Thursday.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is among leaders who thanked the Head of State for declaring he will not seek to extend his term in office.

In a tweet, Khalwale ridiculed opposition leaders Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and COTU boss Francis Atwoli for allegedly trying to entice Uhuru to cling to power.

"Congratulations Your Excellency! And how the con artists tried to entice you! Raila Odinga (with tongue in check) called you, my brother, Atwoli said you are too young to retire, and Kalonzo Musyoka asked you to be our president for life! Wakora! Bure kabisa!" said the former legislator.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, President Uhuru rubbished claims the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was his strategy to continue staying in power.

"I don’t want any position, I am tired. BBI will ensure no Kenyan sheds blood because of politics," he said when he commissioned the Nairobi Expressway along Mombasa Road.
