Area chief Josphat Musinga told Hivisasa on a phone interview that with the help of his assistant chiefs, he was able to arrest the mother of five.

She was found working in a sisal plantation with other people.

The woman allegedly dumped her kid last week after giving birth before the infant was saved by people of goodwill after hearing cries.

"The people working with her who had seen her pregnant started worrying after she was seen without a kid and that's when I was informed and went to arrest her," said Musinga.

He said the lady admitted to dumping the kid claiming that she was unable to raise five kids with no husband.

The woman is detained at Athi River police station awaiting arraignment in court on Monday.

The chief warned that anyone found culpable of dumping or neglecting for their kids will face the full force of the law.

"There is no excuse for neglecting your children whether you have five or ten, the law won't be lenient on you once caught," he said.
