Last month, Catholic Church introduced new regulations guiding donations from politicians, following claims that priests were using the loophole to pick huge sums from corrupt politicians.

The church among others, said it will only allow contributions in form of cheques and M-Pesa, adding that the amount should not exceed certain limits.

At Gekano Parish on Saturday, Dr Ruto seemed comfortable with the new regulations, confirming that he consulted the presiding priest before giving the donation.

"Just like we were given instructions by the church, we have given our contributions to Father and the construction of the church will go on," said Dr Ruto.

"We have given the amount which the Church allowed us to. Thank you and may God bless you all," he added.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has been putting Ruto under immense pressure, accusing him of donating huge sums that cannot be accounted for.

At Kilifi on Saturday, Raila also revisited the matter, demanding that Dr Ruto discloses his source of millions of money that he contributes to churches.

Present during the function were MPs Shadrack Mose, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Nyamoko, Sylvanus Osoro and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
