Aukot who is rooting for the reduction of the number of Members of Parliament from the current 416 to 147 said that the amendment of the constitution is unstoppable.

He said that the Bill, dubbed 'Punguza Mizigo', is on due course after the party found the required signatures from the voters across the country.

The Bill also proposes capping monthly salaries of elected leaders. Under the Bill, a President will earn a maximum of Sh500,000 and Sh300,000 for MPs. The proposal also wants to increase the share of the revenue from 15 per cent to at least 35 per cent.

The 2017 presidential candidate said that they have complied with the requirements of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as far as disclosing the findings of their process is concerned.

He also said that the commission is left with only 60,000 signatures to be scrutinized before they are given a go ahead with the process of changing the constitution.

Aukot said that his team conducted the exercise across the country and they feel the time has come for the changes.

He also questioned why responsible bodies are taking too long on the matter yet they have proven that Kenyan’s are ready for the change in the constitution.

“We had our team during the entire exercise and they have confirmed to us that we met the threshold. We don’t understand why there is a delay,” said Aukot, as quoted by the Standard.
