An Administrative Police officer in Kakamega has been detained for 10 days in a case in which he is accused of shooting to death his colleague.
The suspect, Constable Phillip Wahome Muthondoi, is alleged to have shot Philemon Kipkoech Samoei on August 1st at Milimani Estate.
The two are reported to have been friends before the incident.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Samuel Kamiti, the motive of the murder had not yet been established.
The late Philemon Kipkoech Samoei who was shot in the head was found in a pool of blood. The suspect is alleged to have also had bloodstains on his uniform.
A DNA test on both of the blood samples are yet to be done to establish if the blood found on Wahome's uniform was that of the victim.
“The deceased was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound on the head. Exhibits such as blood stains in the suspect’s uniform link him to the killing,” said Kamiti in his affidavit as quoted by the Standard.
The DCI officer requested the court to grant him 14 more days to conclude on the investigations.
“We require sufficient time; at least 14 days to carry out investigations to establish the motive behind the murder. For these reasons, I pray this court grants me custodial orders so that the suspect doesn’t interfere with the ongoing probe,” Kamiti noted as quoted by the Standard.
Kakamega Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi, however, gave the detectives 10 days instead of 14 days.
The matter be mentioned on August 15
