Parents are in turmoil following what they claim is increased monetary demands by schools.
They are lamenting over huge sums of money that schools are asking from the learners, despite the government having committed itself to cap fee charges by public schools.
It is reported that levies posted on some of the learners report forms are even amounting to thousands.
National chair for Parents Association Nicholas Maiyo revealed to the Sunday Nation his shocking discovery on how some schools had heaped a lot of additional charges to the learners.
According to Maiyo, for parents to score an acceptance back into the schools for the new term, the only ticket was them having to settle the arrears first.
He said thousands of complaints had reached him, one among the occasions being a primary school head who demanded a sum of Sh20,000 to offer admission to a certain learner.
"Some school heads are taking advantage of things like school uniform and infrastructure to milk extra cash from parents," said Mr Maiyo, according to Nation.
Some parents also confessed to Sunday Nation, how they were directed to pay the extra levies to other accounts different from that destined for school fees deposition.
Education Ministry directs that schools open bank accounts for fees and other finances from the government which are subject to auditing by field officers so as to ensure accountability and credibility.
This means that the separate accounts will not be subject to auditing as their existence is only known by the school administrators.
But Maiyo insisted that parents will only pay what the Ministry of Education spells out, and not any other extra fee.
"No school head should charge any extra amount other than the one stipulated by the government," he said.
Schools reopen on Monday for the first term for the 2020 calendar year.
