Wetang'ula on Friday announced his party will participate in the mini-poll scheduled for November 7 by fielding a 'Kibra-born' candidate to face other contestants.

"Ford Kenya, the lion party will be unveiling its candidate in Kibra by-election next week.  A dynamic, young, professional, Kibra-born, grassroots operator who will carry on with the dynamic legacy left by Hon Ken  Okoth. Watch the space!!" he tweeted.

Oguda, who is also a columnist and activist, criticised the move saying Wetang'ula joined the race after Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC) announced its candidate on Wednesday.

Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga's aide, Eliud Owalo, will be ANC's candidate in the by-election after he was handed a direct nomination ticket.

Oguda claimed Wetang'ula's wish was that ANC and his party would join hands and rally behind an aspirant from the Luhya community in the parliamentary race.

"Only that the secret is already out. You were disappointed that ANC fielded a Luo candidate against your earlier wishes that Ford Kenya and ANC support a joint Luhya candidate for Kibra. We can see through your gameplan. We welcome your candidate to the crucible of realpolitik," the columnist tweeted on Friday.

Wetang'ula, who is also the Bungoma Senator, has exuded confidence that his party will emerge victorious having won the seat previously in 1993.

Kibra was hived off from the larger Lang'ata Constituency that was represented in Parliament by Raila for two decades.

"Ford Kenya, the lion party, is no stranger to the great people of Kibra. My brother Rt Hon Raila Odinga went to parliament for the first time in 1993 on Ford Kenya party. We are on the brink of recreating history," Wetang'ula added.
