A section of politicians, especially those allied to Deputy President William Ruto, have accused the supporters of the push of plotting to use it to realize constitutional changes.

But speaking on Friday, the leader rubbished claims that the President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga brainchild will automatically result in a referendum.

He added that BBI can only recommend a referendum in its report, with the process of realizing the changes being a completely different procedure.

According to Kalonzo, a different team will take up the matter, adding that public participations will also be held to seek the public's view if a referendum is recommended.

"Some people think that the BBI is there just to recommend a constitutional amendment. The BBI will just make a report and give it to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. Thereafter, there will be public conversations about the report,” he said on Friday.

The remarks came as a response to Deputy President William Ruto's warning against those banking on the BBI to accommodate themselves in the government.

"Those working hard to create new fault lines, an us verses them 'clash' will fail so miserably they will be shocked!" he added.

Though Uhuru says that BBI seeks to end the culture of post election wrangles, Raila has hinted that it will amount to changes, to alter the current government formation.
