A woman and her mother-in-law were on Saturday night shot dead at their home in Katani, Athi River by unknown assailants.
Confirming this incident, Athi River Sub-county Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi told the Standard that the gunmen followed a businessman, his wife as they headed home.
On arrival at their premise, the assailants reportedly waited until the gate was opened before opening fire on the businessman, his wife and his mother, who came to open the gate for them.
Unfortunately, the businessman's mother and the wife died on the spot.
“The businessman was admitted to Shalom Community Hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries on his left arm and ankle,” Mukuusi told Standard Digital.
Police have launched a hunt for the gunmen, with reports indicating that the assailants stole a handbag from the slain businessman's wife before taking off.
“We are pursuing crucial leads to establish the motive of the shooting and who might have been behind it,” he said as quoted by Standard.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary.
