Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has asked the Senate to not allow governors accused of corruption to remain in office.
Kang’ata on Monday said that the Senate should save the counties from being looted by sending home those who are fleecing the counties in reference to Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu's hearing on his impeachment by the Senate.
“Our counties have been looted left, right and center. At least one chief executive of a county needs to go home to send the right message. Senate needs to support HE efforts of fighting corruption. Tomorrow at the Senate’s proceedings for Kiambu County- may be this is it!” his post read.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka had previously confirmed that the 67-member house would sit on January 28 and 29.
Lusaka also asked Kiambu MCA's to present their evidence on the matter, for the Senate to see whether it is okay for the Senate to go forward with the impeachment process.
Kiambu MCA's impeached Governor Waititu on December 19, 2019 for abuse of office and gross misconduct.
According to them, the governor went against the county government act after looting public resources.
