A suspected rapist was on Thursday lynched in Nakuru county over claims of sexually abusing over 10 minors.
Residents of Mai Mahiu in Naivasha pounced on the 68-year-old man at his shop in Mafuta Taa centre and lynched him, claiming that he has been on a defiling spree over the last few months.
Witnesses said that the man was nabbed on the act with a 10-year-old girl, which drove the angry mob into beating him, forcing him to confess that he has been engaging in the act.
James Gitahi, a witness, was quoted by the Standard saying that the deceased has been living in the area for 15 years, and was nabbed on the act with the girl's mother before the crowd came in and killed him.
"The man has been living in this area for over 15 years and no one suspected him until a mother searching for her daughter found the suspect and the minor in a compromising situation,” Gitahi said in an interview with the Standard.
He added that among the ten minors are two boys, testifying that they all showed up at the spot where the deceased was being beaten, further infuriating the mob.
“Soon after over ten minors including two boys who had been sexually abused by the suspect emerged before area residents decided to lynch him,” Gitahi further said.
The witness said that the suspect has been using sweets to lure the children, and blamed his actions on the devil before his death.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha Deputy OCPD said that the body was taken to the Naivasha mortuary.
