The demonetization process has been slow because of the shortage of new notes.
Speaking during a radio interview, CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge said that the bank has been facing a crisis as far as the distribution of new notes is concerned because of the shortage of the new Sh1000.
Njoroge said that the bank has decided to retain the old notes until the crisis is sorted.
He also promised that the bank is working around the clock to ensure that new notes are enough on the market.
“When we started off, the first batch of notes were there to give Kenyans a taste of the new currency.
"However, you should from this week, expect bank ATMs to churn out new Sh1, 000 notes,” he said, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
An official from the bank, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the bank has put in place different measures to ensure that the new notes are on the market.
CBK governor also said that he has a grand plan to ensure that the process of getting new notes is easier for the Kenyans.
He further said that the notes shortage will not continue to affect the running of operations at different places. CBK has given Kenyans until October 1, 2019, before the old notes are phased out completely.
