Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar will spend another five days in police cells to allow for more investigations into his alleged xenophobic remarks.
On Friday, the court granted detectives three working days excluding Saturday and Sunday to complete investigations against the MP.
The prosecution had sought to have the lawmaker detained for 14 days at Kamukunji Police Station to allow for completion of the investigation against the youthful lawmaker.
Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkiyan Tobiko, however, ordered the MP be detained at Kileleswha Police Station.
On Thursday, the Starehe lawmaker was arraigned in court and charged with issuing xenophobic remarks.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution led by Senior Prosecution Counsel (SPC) Duncan Ondimu had asked the court to detain the MP for 14 days, claiming that he is likely to interfere with investigations if granted bail.
However, Jaguar's lawyer, Dan Okatch opposed the prosecution’s request, arguing that it lacked merit.
He told the court that his client was arrested while on duty and he should be set free to serve his constituents.
The Starehe lawmaker was arrested on Wednesday at Parliament buildings on allegations of making xenophobic remarks in his constituency on Monday.
