Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi decried the subversion of independent institutions by leaders who are supposed to be supporting and strengthening them.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, Mudavadi said that time has come for independent institutions to be given support else the country will be doomed.
He noted that the undermining has often come through inadequate funding and disrespect for leaders at the helm of those institutions.
The Former Vice President cited the stalemate between executive and Judiciary over budgetary allocation as a pristine example.
Mudavadi said that the country is doomed if we cannot ensure these institutions are fully independent.
"A little bid on the Judiciary as an example. She talked about the independence of the institutions that is true. We are seeing a dangerous trend where independent institutions are being undermined. They are either undermined through resource allocation through parliament, the executive. There are basically three arms of the government which we all know them the executive, judiciary and legislature. We have seen battles of the executive and Judiciary. They seem to be undermining each other. For instance, the Judiciary requested about 2.5 per cent of the budget allocation they got 0.7 per cent," he said in part.
Mudavadi also asked the government to regulate the massive foreign debts. He noted that the debts have affected the country in a negative way, adding that something should be done as soon as possible.
