Police officers on Sunday arrested two suspects in connection with the stoning of the Nairobi-bound Mash Poa Bus.
The suspects, Jimmy Baya (19) and Hassan Sammy (21) reportedly attacked the bus at Kibanda Hasara area.
The incident occurred a few miles after the bus, which plying Mombasa–Nairobi highway, reached Mazeras town along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway
Kaloleni Sub-County police commander Ezekiel Chepkwony has confirmed the arrest of the suspects, saying they will be presented in court to respond to charges leveled against them.
The police boss condemned the incident, adding that stern action will be taken against the suspects of the attack.
“We have two suspects who will be charged for assault and malicious damage,” said Mr. Chepkwony.
According to the driver of the bus, Peter Mwiruri, he was forced to stop after hearing a bang. Upon checking, he noticed one of the windows have been broken by unknown persons.
He said that he had to alight alongside his conductor only to find three men standing nearby.
The passengers assisted them to arrest the suspects before they handed them to the police at Kokotoni police station.
A 13-year-old girl was injured after the window broke following the attack. Police have also launched a manhunt for the accomplices of the suspects following the attack.
