Nyamira County Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi has supported Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's directive that all bars should be closed on Saturday and Sunday evening to allow Kenyans to take part in the census.
Speaking in North Mugirango on Wednesday, the vocal lawmaker noted that the census is a crucial exercise which must not be taken for granted.
"I urge residents fond of spending the weekend in bars and night clubs to sacrifice their time and be at their houses to be counted without fail. Otherwise, police officers should implement Matiang'i's orders to close bars for people to be counted," she said.
The MP further appealed to residents living outside the county to consider travelling back to Nyamira to be counted in the exercise which will be conducted on August 24th and 25th.
"I call upon Nyamira residents living in Kisii, Migori, Kisumu, Narok, Bomet, Kericho counties among others to come back home so that they can be counted there. For more resources to be sent to Nyamira we must have numbers. Let everyone take up the exercise with seriousness," she added.
The lawmaker vowed to continue mobilising and sensitising locals on the importance of the exercise.
Momanyi also warned local politicians against politicising the exercise.
