"After a long day of meetings it was great to hang out with our National Men's Basketball team who are set to make their first ever appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations basketball finals in Bamako, Mali. This is a commendable achievement and we wish them all the best as they set out to fly the Kenyan flag," he said.
Kenya basketball team is in Pool B with DR Congo and Nigeria, while hosts Mali are in Pool A with Ivory Coast and Algeria. Pool C has Chad, Angola and Morocco wile Pool D features Tunisia, Egypt and Guinea.
The top teams in each group will automatically proceed to the quarter finals, while second and third teams will play in the play-off before proceeding to the quarter-finals.
The basketball team requires Sh20, 000, 000 for their trip to Mali and the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairman Paul Otula came out asking the government for help.
"We have made sure that we clinch the zonal qualification and the team is in residential training and will want a helping hand from the government to enable us book the tickets and accommodate the teams in Mali," said Mr Otula.
